Kirti Agarwal, MCP, RCC
QUALIFICATIONS
I am a counsellor/psychotherapist with FreeMind Therapy and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia. I have trained in queer competent counselling, and enjoy supporting my clients with many different issues, some of which include trauma, anxiety, depression, body-image, self-esteem, sexuality and relationships & couples therapy. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (MCP) from Adler University in Vancouver, Canada, and a Bachelors in Psychology (Hons) from India. I offer virtual therapy in three languages - English, Hindi and Gujarati. |
PHILOSOPHY OF PRACTICE
I am here to help you create more ease in your life and navigate your struggles, by taking a strengths-based approach in our conversation. Together we will identify your internal resources and merge them with a new perspective and therapeutic tools so you are equipped to address your concerns long after therapy has ended. I aim for you to walk away with a sense of empowerment and a feeling of "I got this!". I believe that no single approach to therapy fits everyone, and I use aspects of Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, with a Trauma Informed Approach, depending on your needs. I maintain that the point of therapy is not to “fix yourself,” but simply to make things a little bit better by creating a tangible shift in your life. Self-compassion is one of the most crucial aspects of good mental health. All of the issues and emotions you experience are real and valid, no matter how "little" some of them may seem. It is natural to feel scared of addressing uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. I offer a non-judgemental space, comfort and safety in our therapy sessions. All you need to do is come as you are - the only step you need to take is the next one.
BACKGROUND
I have various experiences over the years working in the mental health field in several non-profit organizations and private practice settings. My experience consists of supporting clients with both short-term and long-term counselling. I have supported clients in many different issues, of note, sex-therapy, queer counselling, and women’s issues. My experience and practice encompass multiculturalism, and I prioritize acceptance of diversity.
